Ingress Protection (IP Code) Testing – IP07: Immersion Protection

IP07 testing is vital for determining how well a product can withstand temporary immersion in water, along with its ability to resist large objects. This test is crucial for devices that might be used in or near water, such as marine or outdoor equipment, ensuring they can function properly even after being submerged.

Meeting ingress protection compliance requirements can be difficult. We understand the challenges and guide companies through the process.  When products do not meet the requirements, we assist with finding solutions. Our pricing is extremely competitive and we offer volume discounts. We quickly turnaround comprehensive reports after the completion of the testing process.

Summary of IP 07 Ingress Protection Testing

IP07 testing forms a crucial part of the International Protection (IP) Marking code, which is defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The IP rating system categorizes the level of protection offered by electrical enclosures against the intrusion of solid objects and liquids. In particular, the IP07 rating focuses on the ability of a product to resist the entry of large objects and to withstand temporary immersion in water.

Understanding IP07 Testing

IP07 rating includes two key protective features:

Large Object Protection (First Digit – ‘0’)

This test states that there is no protection provided against solid objects.

Temporary Immersion Protection (Second Digit – ‘7’)

This aspect tests the product’s ability to withstand immersion in water under defined conditions of pressure and time.

IP 07 Laboratory Testing Procedures

The IP07 testing process is rigorous and standardized:

Test for Large Object Protection: There is no testing procedure associated with the first digit ‘0’ in an IP rating. This is because it indicates that the product offers no protection against solid objects.

Test for Temporary Immersion Protection: The product is immersed in water at a depth of 1 meter for a duration which the manufacturer specifies, but which should not be less than 30 minutes. The test ensures that no harmful amount of water enters the enclosure.

Importance of IP07 Testing

Reliability in Wet Environments

IP07 testing guarantees that products remain reliable when temporarily immersed in water, a critical factor for many marine and outdoor applications.

Safety Assurance

Products passing the IP07 test are deemed safe from water ingress under immersion conditions, which is vital for user safety.

Consumer Confidence

An IP07 rating enhances consumer trust in the product’s durability and functionality in water-related environments.

Compliance with Standards

Meeting the IP07 standard is essential for manufacturers to comply with industry regulations and to compete in the global market.

Industry Applications

IP07 testing is crucial in several industries:

Marine and Boating Equipment: For devices used in marine environments where temporary immersion is a possibility.

Outdoor Electronics: For gadgets that are used outdoors and may be exposed to conditions where temporary immersion could occur.

Sports and Recreation Equipment: In areas such as scuba diving gear or outdoor camping equipment, where water exposure is common.

Expert IP 07 Ingress Protection (IP Code) Testing Laboratory

IP07 testing is a crucial evaluation for products designed for use in or around water, offering an important measure of their ability to resist large objects and endure temporary immersion. This testing not only ensures the durability and safety of these products but also builds consumer confidence in their reliability under specific conditions.

As technology continues to advance, the methodologies and standards for IP07 testing must also evolve, ensuring they adequately reflect the needs of modern products and their users.

In addition to IP07 immersion testing, Keystone has a full scope of testing equipment to provide all of the IP Code tests from IP10 to IP69K. Our team strives to give our customers more time and energy on product development instead of testing.
