Popular IP Code Standards
As described on our IP Code Page, there are a number of combinations available for an enclosure to be tested to. Below is a list of the most popular specific IP Code standards:
IP53 Test
IP53 testing involves testing an enclosure for the following solid particle protection and liquid ingress protection:
Solid Particle Protection:
Object size protected against: Dust protected
Effective against: Ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment; complete protection against contact (dust proof).
Liquid Ingress Protection:
Protected Against: Spraying water
Testing For: Water falling as a spray at any angle up to 60° from the vertical shall have no harmful effect.
An enclosure that can meet the preceding two requirements is IP53 Testing compliant.
IP55 Test
IP55 testing involves testing an enclosure for the following solid particle protection and liquid ingress protection:
Solid Particle Protection:
Object size protected against: Dust protected
Effective against: Ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment; complete protection against contact (dust proof).
Liquid Ingress Protection:
Protected Against: Water jets
Testing For: Water projected by a nozzle (6.3 mm) against enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.
An enclosure that can meet the preceding two requirements is IP55 Testing compliant.
IP56 Test
IP56 testing involves testing an enclosure for the following solid particle protection and liquid ingress protection:
Solid Particle Protection:
Object size protected against: Dust protected
Effective against: Ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment; complete protection against contact (dust proof).
Liquid Ingress Protection:
Protected Against: Powerful water jets
Testing For: Water projected in powerful jets (12.5 mm nozzle) against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.
An enclosure that can meet the preceding two requirements is IP56 Testing compliant.
IP57 Test
IP57 testing involves testing an enclosure for the following solid particle protection and liquid ingress protection:
Solid Particle Protection:
Object size protected against: Dust protected
Effective against: Ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment; complete protection against contact (dust proof).
Liquid Ingress Protection:
Protected Against: Immersion up to 1 meter
Testing For: Ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1 m of submersion).
An enclosure that can meet the preceding two requirements is IP57 Testing compliant.
IP64 Test
IP64 testing involves testing an enclosure for the following solid particle protection and liquid ingress protection:
Solid Particle Protection:
Object size protected against: Dust proof
Effective against: No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact (dust tight).
Liquid Ingress Protection:
Protected Against: Splashing of water
Testing For: Water splashing against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effect.
An enclosure that can meet the preceding two requirements is IP64 Testing compliant.
IP65 Test
IP65 testing involves testing an enclosure for the following solid particle protection and liquid ingress protection:
Solid Particle Protection:
Object size protected against: Dust proof
Effective against: No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact (dust tight).
Liquid Ingress Protection:
Protected Against: Water jets
Testing For: Water projected by a nozzle (6.3 mm) against enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.
An enclosure that can meet the preceding two requirements is IP65 Testing compliant.
IP66 Test
IP66 testing involves testing an enclosure for the following solid particle protection and liquid ingress protection:
Solid Particle Protection:
Object size protected against: Dust proof
Effective against: No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact (dust tight).
Liquid Ingress Protection:
Protected Against: Powerful water jets
Testing For: Water projected in powerful jets (12.5 mm nozzle) against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.
An enclosure that can meet the preceding two requirements is IP66 Testing compliant.
IP67 Test
IP67 testing involves testing an enclosure for the following solid particle protection and liquid ingress protection:
Solid Particle Protection:
Object size protected against: Dust proof
Effective against: No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact (dust tight).
Liquid Ingress Protection:
Protected Against: Immersion up to 1 meter
Testing For: Ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1 m of submersion).
An enclosure that can meet the preceding two requirements is IP67 Testing compliant.
IP68 Test
IP68 testing involves testing an enclosure for the following solid particle protection and liquid ingress protection:
Solid Particle Protection:
Object size protected against: Dust proof
Effective against: No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact (dust tight).
Liquid Ingress Protection:
Protected Against: Immersion beyond 1 meter
Testing For: The equipment is suitable for continuous immersion in water under conditions which shall be specified by the manufacturer. However, with certain types of equipment, it can mean that water can enter but only in such a manner that it produces no harmful effects.
An enclosure that can meet the preceding two requirements is IP68 Testing compliant.
IP69 Test
IP69 testing involves testing an enclosure for the following solid particle protection and liquid ingress protection:
Solid Particle Protection:
Object size protected against: Dust proof
Effective against: No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact (dust tight).
Liquid Ingress Protection:
Protected Against: Powerful high temperature water jets
Testing For: Protected against close-range high pressure, high temperature spray downs.
An enclosure that can meet the preceding two requirements is IP69 Testing compliant.
