IEC 61000-6-2 EMC Immunity Testing of Industrial Environments

The IEC 61000-6-2 lab testing standard specifies immunity requirements for electrical equipment in industrial environments. As a leader in electromagnetic compatibility, EMC, regulatory compliance testing, Keystone Compliance assists electronic equipment manufacturers with EMC testing. Meeting the IEC, EN, and other EMC testing requirements can be challenging. Not only do we understand the challenges, but we help guide companies through the process.

Keystone Compliance tailors each test plan to individual customer needs minimizing unnecessary costs and over-testing. Additionally, we are in constant communication throughout the entire test process. Keystone’s accurate test reports are delivered quickly using our “four-eyes” approach. Meaning that multiple engineers and technicians review each report, ensuring that all the information required is present. Keystone takes pride in providing the peace of mind that all of your unintentional radiator testing needs will be met.

Summary of IEC 61000-6-2 EMC Immunity Lab Testing

The IEC 61000-6-2 test standard for EMC immunity requirements applies to electrical and electronic apparatus intended for use in industrial environments, as described below. Immunity requirements in the frequency range 0 Hz to 400 GHz are covered. No tests need to be performed at frequencies where no requirements are specified.

IEC 6100 6 2 testing is an EMC immunity standard that applies if no relevant dedicated product or product-family EMC immunity standard exists. IEC 6100-6-2 has been harmonized with the EN 61000-6-2 test standard. The EMC test applies to apparatus intended to be connected to a power network supplied from a high or medium voltage transformer dedicated to the supply of an installation feeding manufacturing or similar plant.

Furthermore, it is intended to operate in or in proximity to industrial locations, as described below. The IEC 61000 6 2 test standard applies also to apparatus which are battery operated and intended to be used in industrial locations.

Scope of IEC 61000-6-2 Regulatory Compliance Testing

The environments encompassed by this standard are industrial, both indoor and outdoor. Industrial locations are in addition characterized by the existence of one or more of the following:

  • industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) apparatus (as defined in CISPR 11);
  • heavy inductive or capacitive loads are frequently switched;
  • currents and associated magnetic fields are high.

The object of 61000-6-2 testing is to define immunity test requirements for apparatus defined in the scope in relation to continuous and transient, conducted and radiated disturbances, including electrostatic discharges. The immunity requirements have been selected to ensure an adequate level of immunity for apparatus at industrial locations. The levels do not, however, cover extreme cases, which may occur at any location, but with an extremely low probability of occurrence.

Not all disturbance phenomena have been included for testing purposes in this standard, but only those considered as relevant for the equipment covered by this standard. These test requirements represent essential electromagnetic compatibility immunity requirements.

Expert IEC 61000-6-2 Electromagnetic Compatibility Lab Testing

Keystone Compliance is an expert IEC 61000-6-2 test lab. Our engineers have a thorough understanding of the IEC 61000 6 2 test requirements and work diligently with customers to overcome test failures. Not only do they identify the root of the problem, but they also work with the manufacturer to determine ways to fix the problem.

This consultative approach is one of the reasons Keystone Compliance has been recognized as one of the fastest-growing companies in the country by INC Magazine. It is also a reason why so many manufacturers call Keystone Compliance their EN-61000-6-2 test lab.
