ICES 001 Industrial, Scientific and Medical Radio Frequency Generator Lab Testing
ICES sets out compliance lab testing procedures relative to radiated noise emissions. As a leader in EMC regulatory compliance testing, Keystone Compliance assists electronic equipment manufacturers with EMC testing. Meeting the IEC, EN, and other EMC testing requirements can be challenging. Not only do we understand the challenges, but we help guide companies through the process.
Keystone’s EMC testing engineers streamline the process and assist companies to achieve the compliance they require. We tailor each test plan to individual customer needs minimizing unnecessary costs and over-testing. Additionally, we are in constant communication throughout the entire test process. From concept through compliance, Keystone meets all of our customer’s needs under one roof.

Summary of ICES 001 Compliance and Laboratory Testing
The ICES 001 interference-causing equipment standard explains the technical requirements relative to radiated noise emissions from ISM radio frequency generators.
ISM can be classified as industrial, scientific, and medical radio frequency generators. This means any ISM interference-causing equipment that generates and/or uses radio frequency energy. This excludes applications in the field of telecommunication, information technology and other applications covered by the Industry Canada standards.
Scope of ICES ISM Equipment Compliance Testing
Instrumentation and methods of measurement are in accordance with CISPR 11.
CISPR 11 Radio Frequency Disturbance Conditions
The load used when industrial equipment is tested may be either the load used in service or an equivalent device. When testing with the load used in service, the electrodes and cables are disposed of in the manner of their normal use. Measurements are made at both maximum output power and at half-maximum output power. Equipment that normally operates at zero or very low output power is also tested in these conditions.
Scientific equipment is tested under normal operating conditions. Laboratory and measuring equipment is operated as intended. Any RF output ports are terminated in a matching non-radiating load.
CISPR 11 Instrumentation and Equipment
Equipment in this EMC regulatory compliance standard is split into group 1 and group 2.
Group 1 contains all equipment in this standard that is not classified within group 2. Group 1 will either meet both the average limit specified or the quasi-peak limit.
Group 2 equipment contains all ISM RF equipment in which RF energy ranging from 9 Hz to 400 GHz is intentionally generated and used. These frequencies are also used for the treatment of material, inspection/analysis purposes, or the transfer of electromagnetic energy.
ICES 001 Lab Testing Procedural Requirements
A record of the measurement method and results are included by the manufacturer. Furthermore, a label affixed to the apparatus must accompany each industrial, scientific, or medical radio frequency generator.
Keystone Compliance Provides expert ICES 001 Lab Testing
Keystone has a full lab of test equipment which permits us to provide short lead times on scheduling. Our team strives to give our customers more time and energy on product development instead of testing. Keystone Compliance can accommodate fixed, mobile and portable devices of all sizes.
