Summary of QCVN 118 Electromagnetic Compatibility EMC Testing
QCVN 118 is intended for the electromagnetic compatibility of multimedia equipment. However, the equipment must have a rating of r.m.s. AC or DC supply voltage not exceeding 600 V. The radiated emission requirements for QCVN 118 are not intended to apply to international transmissions of radio transmitters.
The scope of this test has two main objectives:
- The EMC standard is used to establish requirements that provide adequate levels of protection of the radio spectrum.
- QCVN 118 is used to specify procedures to ensure the reproducibility of measurements and the repeatability of results.
EMC multimedia equipment is equipment that is used for information technology, audio, video, broadcast receiver, entertainment light control, or a combination of these.
Compliance with QCVN 118 classifies as either class A or Class B requirements. Compliance is shown by measuring the EUT’s emissions when operating its functions simultaneously, individually in turn, or a combination of the two.
Scope of QCVN 118 EMC Compliance Testing
The procedures to be used for the measurement of emission levels depend on several factors. These include:
- Type of equipment under testing (EUT)
- The type of port
- The types of cables used
- The frequency range
- The mode of operation.
General electromagnetic compatibility requirements for compiling a test report are found in IEC 17025. Moreover, sufficient details must be provided to reproduce and complete formal measurements.
QCVN 118 will state the mode of operation of the EUT. The report will describe how its ports are exercised throughout the test. The test must indicate whether the product is compliant with the Class A or Class B equipment.
The EMC QCVN 118 test report will also include measurements of at least six of the highest emissions relative to the limit for each detector type. The results include information for each emission such as:
- The port assessed
- For AC power line measurements, the line under test
- Frequency and amplitude of the emission
- Margin with respect to the specified limit
- The limit at the frequency of the emission
- The detector used.
