EN 61000-4-17 Electromagnetic Compatibility
The EN 61000-4-17 test standard covers immunity requirements that apply to electrical and electronic apparatus. The equipment must be intended for use in industrial environments. EN 61000-4-17 testing details the immunity requirements in the frequency range of 0 Hz to 400 GHz. No tests need to be performed at frequencies where no requirements are specified. It is important to note that EN 61000 4 17 testing is harmonized with EN 61000-4-17 testing.
The EN 61000 4 17 test standard applies if no relevant dedicated product or product-family EMC immunity standard exists. 61000-4-17 applies to apparatus intended to be connected to a power network. The network must be supplied from a high or medium-voltage transformer.
Furthermore, the transformer must be dedicated to the supply of an installation feeding manufacturing or similar plant. It is also intended to operate in or in proximity to industrial locations.
This standard applies also to apparatus which are battery operated and intended to be used in industrial locations. The environments encompassed by this standard are industrial, both indoor and outdoor.
Industrial locations are in addition characterized by the existence of one or more of the following:
- industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) apparatus (as defined in CISPR 11);
- heavy inductive or capacitive loads are frequently switched;
- currents and associated magnetic fields are high.
The object of EN 61000-4-17 defines immunity test requirements for apparatus with continuous and transient, conducted, and radiated disturbances. EN 61000-4-17 includes electrostatic discharges (ESD). The immunity requirements have been selected to ensure an adequate level of immunity for apparatus at industrial locations. The levels do not, however, cover extreme cases. These may occur at any location, but with an extremely low probability of occurrence.
Not all disturbance phenomena have been included for testing purposes in this standard. Only those considered as relevant for the equipment are covered by this EN standard. These test requirements represent essential electromagnetic compatibility immunity requirements.
Expert EMC Laboratory Testing
Keystone Compliance has been established as a premier EN-61000-4-17 test lab. With five EMC test chambers, including three 3-meter chambers, short lead times on scheduling is almost always available. In addition to providing professional testing and reports, the engineering team assists manufacturers when units experience problems.
Our team of engineers understands the EN-61000-4-17 test requirements and can often identify the root cause of any challenges. This value engineering significantly increases the number of customers that can meet the requirements of the testing.
Contact Keystone Compliance the next time you need an IEC 61000-4-17 test lab or an EN 61000-4-17 test lab.
