Summary of ETSI EN Mobile Stations Equipment Testing

This ETSI EN standard specifies technical characteristics and methods of measurement for GSM mobile station testing. This radio equipment type is for operating a digital telecommunications system. This system must range in the GSM 900 and/or GSM 1800 frequency bands. The system must also have a channel separation of 200 kHz.

RF testing standard ETSI EN 301 511 covers the requirements for terminal equipment up to and including 3GPP Rel-12. These general requirements are applied to the terminal equipment and are for one release only. It must be known that this document does not cover GPRS Class A mobiles. This intentional radiator testing does not cover ECSD mobiles.

In addition to this RF document, other ENs that specify technical requirements in respect of essential requirements will apply to equipment within the scope of this document.

Some requirements only apply to specific types of mobile stations. However, this document indicates the specific test which is carried out for each mobile type. An active accessory is covered by this wireless regulatory compliance test if it modifies the terminal performance in an aspect that affects conformance to essential requirements.

Scope of Technical Intentional Radiator Requirements

The technical requirements of this electromagnetic compliance document apply under the environmental profile for the operation of equipment. This must be stated by the manufacturer. The equipment should comply with all technical requirements of this document.

The interpretation of the results recorded in the test report can be described as follows:

  • The measured value related to the corresponding limit will be used to decide whether the equipment meets the current requirements.
  • The value of the measurement uncertainty for the measurement of each parameter.
  • The recorded value of the measurement uncertainty is recommended to be equal to or less than the one specified in ETSI TS 151 010-1.

The measurement uncertainty figures are calculated and must correspond to an expansion factor. Principles of the calculation of measurement uncertainty are contained in ETSI TR 100 028.
