C63.26 Licensed Radio Service Intentional Radiator Testing

C63.26 covers EMC testing of transmitters designed to operate in licensed radio services. As a leader in RF intentional radiator requirement testing, Keystone Compliance recognizes the requirements needed for wireless radio manufacturers. Meeting the ETSI, FCC, and other wireless testing specifications can be challenging. Not only do we understand the challenges, but we help guide companies through the process. Keystone Compliance actively engages in the TCB Council, ANSI C63 Main Committee, and ANSI C63 wireless working groups.

Our proven process helps avoid product launch delays. This is done by inviting our clients to review draft reports before final certification. Regarded as a leader in wireless testing, Keystone Compliance assists companies in RF testing daily. From concept through compliance, Keystone meets all of our customers’ needs under one roof. We have a reputation for helping customers achieve their wireless product certifications.

Summary of IEEE C63.26 RF Device Testing Information

IEEE C63.26 provides information about compliance testing radio transmitters. These transmitters are designed to operate in a licensed radio service. It does not include limits or licensing requirements. C63.26 does not consider test methods for requirements specific to maritime and aviation transmitters. The method does not consider ground-based radars, satellite communication equipment, etc.

However, this standard does provide test methods to determine compliance with regulatory requirements for many types of transmitters used in the various licensed radio services. Procedures for these transmitters include but are not limited to the following radio services:

  • Commercial mobile radio services
  • Public mobile services
  • Cellular radiotelephone service
  • Personal communication services
  • Miscellaneous wireless communication services
  • Private land mobile radio services
  • Personal radio services
  • Public safety radio pool

Scope of C63 Wireless Telecom RF Laboratory Testing

Testing devices according to this intentional radiator standard and meeting the regulatory requirements is the primary way of showing compliance. The standard provides the methods of measurement to show compliance with technical specifications for the majority of transmitters.

IEEE C63 serves as an addition to ANSI C63.10 for compliance testing of unlicensed radios. It also serves as a companion for ANSI C63.4 of low-voltage electrical and electronic components.

For this test, a licensed radio service is defined as a service that operates with a blanket or individual license. This may include mobile telephones, business radios, cellular telephones, etc.

IEEE Licensed Radio Frequency Transmitter Conditioning and Equipment

The use of proper equipment for obtaining accurate and reproducible test results is extremely necessary. Below is a list of equipment typically needed to determine the regulatory compliance of RF transmitters. Not all of this equipment is always needed for every test.

  • Antennas
  • Audio generator
  • Base station simulator
  • Communications test set
  • Directional coupler
  • Dummy microphone
  • Environmental chamber
  • Low noise preamplifier
  • Measuring receiver
  • Modulation analyzer

Specifications for each piece of equipment depend on the test being performed. As mentioned above, this equipment and other equipment is crucial for obtaining accurate and reproducible test results. Keystone Compliance works with customers to relieve stress and achieve compliance regulations needed for RF transmitter devices.
