Summary of TIA Project 25 Wireless Land Mobile Radio Testing

TIA 102 CAAA provides performance methods for digitally modulated radio equipment. Furthermore, the equipment has a maximum operating frequency of 1 GHz or less in the Private Land Mobile Radio Services.

There are two performance levels described in this wireless standard. Class B is comparable to 12 kHz analog radio equipment. Class A performance describes a higher level for more stringent applications. This wireless TIA standard applies to other methods addressed in Project 25.

The object of this TIA 102 standard is to serve as a benchmark for assessing modulated equipment compliant with ANSI/TIA 102.

Scope of TIA Wire Intentional Radiator Testing

For all types of equipment mentioned below, where any of the elements are absent, the tests that pertain to the absent elements are not applicable. The equipment is assembled with any adjustments made with the manufacturer’s instructions. Where alternative modes are available, relevant adjustments are made and measurement procedures are repeated.

Unless otherwise specified, special function subsystems are disabled while conducting the measurement procedures. For example, encryption devices. Also, all RF power measurements assume a 50-ohm impedance and a power level expressed in dBm where 0 dBm = 1 milliwatt. If the equipment requires a special interface device to accomplish a measurement procedure, the manufacturer will specify such device.

Mobile communications equipment is equipment such as radio transmitters, receivers, vocoders, or any combination of these. The equipment is capable of meeting user expectations and providing communications in a non-stationary environment. The equipment also does not include an integral power source or antenna.

Mobile communication equipment is further defined as being capable of being physically mounted onto any vehicle. Whereas, the vehicle is used for the transportation of people, goods, or services and provides mobility for a power source or antenna.

Portable communications equipment are pieces of equipment similar to mobile communications equipment. However, the equipment can be hand-carried or worn on the person. The portable communication equipment is also operated from a portable power source and antenna. The temperature operating range of the power source is not included in this wireless standard. It excludes accessories such as chargers, power boosters, batteries, etc.

Base station communications equipment consists of radio transmitters, receivers, and vocoders, or any combination of these. The equipment is capable of providing communications in a stationary environment. Usually, the equipment includes an integral power supply. This equipment is also defined as being physically mounted on or in a stationary structure.
