What It Evaluates
Category A uses a 600 V open-circuit spike; Category B uses twice the AC RMS or DC line voltage, or 200 V—whichever is lower. The 50 Ω generator waveform must have a rise time of 2 µs or less and a duration of at least 10 µs.
Equipment Categories:
- Category A: High protection against voltage-spike damage.
- Category B: Lower voltage-spike protection is acceptable.
When It Applies
Applicability depends on the airborne equipment installation, declared category, aircraft environment, and program requirements.
