MIL-STD-810H

511.7 Explosive Atmosphere

MIL-STD-810H Part Two, Method 511.7

What It Evaluates

Use a homogeneous 3.8% by-volume n-hexane mixture and stabilize the equipment at its high operating temperature. Pressure-altitude reductions must not exceed 100 m/min (330 ft/min), and the mixture must be verified as explosive before results are accepted.

When It Applies

Applies when the product lifecycle, platform, storage, transport, deployment, or operating environment includes credible exposure.

Likely Procedures

Procedure selection requires engineering review of the item lifecycle and contract requirements.

Typical Ranges / Conditioning

Severity, duration, and conditions require engineering tailoring; no generic value is assigned by this tool. Conditioning details require review by qualified engineers and applicable contract requirements.

This tool provides preliminary planning information only. Final MIL-STD-810H, MIL-STD-461, and RTCA DO-160 requirements must be reviewed and tailored by qualified engineers based on the product, lifecycle, platform, environment, and contract requirements.
