What It Evaluates

Measures an out-of-band modulated signal to determine whether its modulation transfers onto an in-band receiver signal.

Applies from 30 Hz–20 GHz only to receivers that process amplitude-modulated RF signals. Test frequencies and levels are tailored from the receiver’s sensitivity, bandwidth, front-end characteristics, and overload limits.

When It Applies

Applicability depends on platform, installation, interfaces, procurement requirements, and the controlling revision.

Typical Applicability

Establish an in-band signal near receiver sensitivity, then inject an out-of-band signal using the modulation normally processed by the receiver. Sweep the applicable range, typically approximately ± the receiver IF around the tuned frequency, while monitoring for transferred modulation or other unintended responses.
