IEC 60068-2-6 Sinusoidal Vibration Testing

IEC 60068-2-6 vibration testing provides a method of test applicable to components, equipment, and other articles, which during transportation or in service, may be subjected to conditions involving vibration of a harmonic pattern. These vibrations may be caused by rotating, pulsating, or oscillating forces, similar to those that occur on ships, aircraft, rotorcraft, land vehicles, and space applications, or caused by machinery and seismic phenomena. In a nutshell, IEC 60068-2-6 testing subjects a specimen to sinusoidal vibration over a given frequency range for a given period.

The purpose of IEC-60068-2-6 testing is to determine any mechanical weakness and/or degradation in the specific performance of the equipment under test (EUT). IEC 60068-2-6 vibration testing requires that the EUT be operational during testing.

During testing, the EUT and the vibration response data are to be monitored and examined to determine critical frequencies. The two primary endurance procedures required by IEC60068-2-6 testing are endurance by sweeping and endurance at fixed frequencies. These frequencies, applied amplitudes and the behavior of the EUT shall be stated in the test report.
