Summary of ANSI C63.26 RF Device Testing Information
ANSI C63.26 provides information about compliance testing of radio transmitters. These transmitters are designed to operate in a licensed radio service. It does not include limits or licensing requirements.
The C63.26 wireless RF test does not consider test methods for requirements specific to maritime and aviation transmitters. Additionally, the method does not consider ground-based radars, satellite communication equipment, etc.
C63.26 lab testing determines compliance with regulatory requirements for many types of transmitters used in the various licensed radio services. Procedures for these transmitters include the following radio services:
- Commercial mobile radio services
- Public mobile services
- Cellular radiotelephone service
- Personal communication services
- Miscellaneous wireless communication services
- Private land mobile radio services
- Personal radio services
- Public safety radio pool
Scope of C63 Wireless Telecom RF Laboratory Testing
Testing devices according to this intentional radiator standard and meeting the regulatory requirements is the primary way of showing compliance. The standard provides the methods of measurement to show compliance with technical specifications for the majority of transmitters.
IEEE C63.26 harmonizes with ANSI C63.10, testing unlicensed radios. It also serves as a supplement for ANSI C63.4, testing low-voltage electrical and electronic components.
A licensed radio service is defined as a service that operates with a blanket or individual license. This may include mobile telephones, business radios, cellular telephones, etc.
ANSI Licensed Radio Frequency Transmitter Conditioning and Equipment
The use of proper equipment for obtaining accurate and reproducible test results is extremely necessary. Below is a list of equipment typically needed to determine the regulatory compliance of RF transmitters. Not all of this equipment is always needed for every test.
- Antennas
- Audio generator
- Base station simulator
- Communications test set
- Directional coupler
- Dummy microphone
- Environmental chamber
- Low noise preamplifier
- Measuring receiver
- Modulation analyzer
Specifications for each piece of equipment depend on the test being performed. As mentioned above, this equipment and other equipment is crucial for obtaining accurate and reproducible test results. Keystone Compliance works with customers to relieve stress and achieve compliance regulations needed for RF transmitter devices.
